There is no single best country in Asia for cosmetic surgery. The right choice depends on the procedure you want, your budget, the surgeon’s credentials, communication, recovery and aftercare.

Different destinations have different strengths. And choosing the country is only the first step. The surgeon and facility you choose matter just as much.

To make this comparison useful, we have used information from medical societies, government bodies and healthcare accreditation organisations. This guide compares Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia (Bali), Japan and Vietnam to help you narrow down your options.

6 Leading Places in Asia for Plastic Surgery

[1] Bali, Indonesia

Choose Bali for a range of cosmetic procedures at competitive prices in one of the world’s top travel destinations.

Bali was voted as the world’s top travel destination for 2026. You can also combine your cosmetic procedure with visits to stunning landscapes, cultural experiences and adventure at good value.

The Bali Advantage:

Bali offers internationally accredited hospital-based cosmetic surgery. BIMC Hospital Nusa Dua became the first hospital in Indonesia to receive ACHSI international accreditation in 2014 and was named Medical Tourism Hospital of the Year - Indonesia at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026.

Indonesia has a professional body for plastic surgeons. You can check whether a surgeon is associated with the Indonesian Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (PERAPI). You can also check for international professional memberships such as ISAPS when researching a surgeon.

You can find internationally recognised plastic surgeons in Bali. Some surgeons practising in Bali are members of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) and some have undertaken additional training in countries including Australia, Japan, South Korea and the UK.

Bali has a substantial international tourism infrastructure. The island recorded 6.95 million direct international tourist arrivals in 2025, up 9.72% from 2024. This established tourism sector provides patients with many options for accommodation, transport and dining options for their recovery time.

Bali has reasonable plastic surgery pricing compared to many other countries. You can choose to stay for a longer period after your treatment and attend follow-up appointments before flying home. One patient reported that her rhinoplasty costs included consultations, check-ups and 21 days of hotel accommodation.

[2] South Korea

The South Korea Advantage:

South Korea has a large network of plastic surgery specialists. According to ISAPS, there were over 2,800 in 2024.

South Korea has a government-run accreditation programme for facilities treating international patients. You can use it to find facilities assessed for overseas patient care.

Facilities treating international patients must have medical malpractice liability insurance. So, there is financial protection in case of medical negligence.

The Korean Accreditation Program for Hospitals Serving Foreign Patients (KAHF) also assesses multilingual consultations and interpretation. This can reduce communication problems during treatment.

You can check surgeons through the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (KSPRS). Accredited facilities can be checked through KAHF. So, you can verify both before booking.

Korean medical institutions must disclose fees for treatments not covered by insurance, including cosmetic procedures. You can check the listed price before you travel.

[3] Thailand

The Thailand Advantage:

Thailand has over 400 active plastic surgeons. This indicates an established base for cosmetic surgery.

Eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty were Thailand’s two most performed aesthetic surgical procedures in 2024, according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).

Joint Commission International (JCI) accredits some hospitals. These hospitals meet international standards in patient safety, infection control and surgical care.

Major hospitals offer interpreter and international-patient services to make consultations and treatment planning easier when travelling from overseas.

Some hospitals work with nearby hotels. You can stay there after discharge until you are ready to fly home.

You can check a surgeon through the Medical Council of Thailand and the Thai Plastic Surgery Association (ThPRS) before booking.

[4] Malaysia

The Malaysia Advantage:

Malaysia had more than 30,000 aesthetic procedures in 2024. The country also had around 145 plastic surgeons.

Eyelid surgery was Malaysia’s most performed aesthetic surgery in 2024. Then came scar revision and facial fat grafting.

Private hospitals and clinics are regulated under the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998. Doctors are separately regulated under the Medical Act 1971. So, both the doctor and the facility come under formal regulation.

You can check whether a doctor is registered through the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). Specialist status can be checked through the National Specialist Register (NSR). This lets you confirm whether your doctor is a recognised specialist.

Some private hospitals also have international accreditation like JCI or the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI). These give you another standard to check when choosing a hospital.

The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) runs a flagship medical tourism hospital programme. Its selected hospitals give you a starting point when looking for facilities that cater to international patients.

[5] Japan

The Japan Advantage:

The country reported over 1.6 million aesthetic procedures in 2024. This indicates a healthy base for cosmetic surgeries.

Around 140,000 eyelid surgeries were performed there in 2024.

You can verify specialist credentials before you book. Search for plastic surgeons who are certified by the Japanese Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (JSPRS). This organisation is Japan’s professional society for plastic and reconstructive surgery. JSPRS runs examinations and certifies doctors as Board Certified Specialists of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Certification requires specified training and examinations, and it must be renewed every five years.

In Japan, there is an accreditation scheme for medical institutions treating overseas patients. Japan Medical Service Accreditation for International Patients (JMIP) checks whether medical institutions offer language support and can meet international patients’ needs. You can shortlist facilities that are better prepared to treat patients from overseas.

[6] Vietnam

The Vietnam Advantage:

You will find an established market for cosmetic surgery. More than 200,000 cosmetic surgeries were performed in Vietnam in 2024.

Eyelid surgery, facial fat grafting or rhinoplasty were the country’s three most performed cosmetic surgeries in 2024.

Vietnam’s regulations provide an added safeguard for patients. Invasive cosmetic procedures can only be performed at authorised hospitals, specialist cosmetic clinics or medical facilities approved to provide them.

As of January 2026, Vietnam had nine JCI-accredited healthcare facilities, including eight hospitals. You can look for this accreditation when choosing a hospital.
